As a small business owner, event marketing is a wonderful way to build brand awareness and sell your products or services. But if you are making any of these 3 mistakes then you might be walking away from your events, craft fairs, or pop ups with less than stellar results.

 

1. People Just Walk By

There are a number of reasons people might be simply walking by your table instead of interacting with you. It could be that your table display is not enticing for the event’s audience (are you selling jewelry at a health fair?). Your table display may also not be clearly demonstrating to those passing by what exactly you are selling, or it is simply not catching anyone’s eye.

 

It is possible that your body language and environment are also causing people to skip your vendor table or booth. Making sure you are approachable and engaging can help people be more willing to stop by and talk with you.

2. No Research

Participating in events and craft fairs can be a lot of fun, but it’s important to remember what your goal is for being at an event. Saying yes to every and any event you are able to can actually hinder your small business. It may be that you are not getting people to your table or booth because this event does not appeal to YOUR target audience. 

Doing research on events before deciding to participate will allow you to confirm that YOUR target audience will be there. Your research should also include whether the event or craft fair is being promoted by the organizers. If you participate in an event that hasn’t been promoted then you could end up with NO audience at all!

3. No Follow Up

If you have not set up a POST-EVENT communication plan, then you are missing out on potential sales! If you want to convert event goers into strong potential leads and stay top of mind then you need to have a plan set up for communicating with them after the event. Collecting emails or phone numbers (with understood consent) is an important key to maximizing your participation in any event, craft fair, or pop up.
