Why would I pay for sound effects or music?

It can be really difficult to find the right sound effect for your video, and once you do it might be copyrighted.

You could take your chances and use the music anyway, but most platforms will now actually mute your video or even take down your video if you use music that is not copyright-free.

What if I only use audio that is trending or that is being used by others on a platform?

While it can be great to hop on a trending audio, just because another user used a song does not mean they had the rights to use it. It could be that months later your video gets muted or taken down. A copyright strike does not have to happen immediately.

If you are monetizing on Youtube, making sure to use copyright-free music is extremely important. If your monetized video gets a copyright strike, YouTube may not only mute or take down you video, they may also go back and take a portion of the revenue you made from that video.

Music can change the tone of a video, add an extra something, and can even help you convey your message to your audience. However, adding music to your content can become a sticky situation when copyrights come into play.

This is why it is important to use libraries of copy-right free music, such as Epidemic Sound, when creating content. These libraries are usually subscription based, and any videos created during an active subscription will not receive a copyright strike.
