You canSmall business ownership can be lonely, but it does not have to be. Here at The Seasoned Marketer we are all about helping small business owners feel confident in their marketing by providing them with the marketing resources they need. This includes sharing other marketing resources that can help small businesses grow. Here are 6 marketing resources that can help you with marketing your small business: Grow with Google, Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE), HubSpot Academy, Small Business Development Centers (SBDC), Chamber of Commerce, and The Seasoned Marketer.
Grow With Google
Google itself is a great resource for small businesses in general. It is still the largest and most used search engine, connecting you with all the information you are looking for. The search engine is probably how you found this article. However, Google also has a Grow with Google hub with resources for businesses and individuals trying to elevate their success.
They offer courses and the ability to earn certifications for a wide range of subjects. There are also Google coaches to assist you in your education. You can choose from already created categories to help you easily find the information you need. For example, if you select the “I want to be found online” category, it will show you all the information relating to that query. This includes tutorials, guides, videos, and more.
Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE)
Up next for marketing resources is SCORE. SCORE is an amazing opportunity for those looking for mentorship and some one-on-one consulting. Mentors available at SCORE are retired executives that have years of experience in their fields. You can meet with mentors in person or virtually.
They also offer other types of resources. These resources include: events, webinars, courses, workshops, and more. Some of these events may also be offered in person, depending on where you live. A variety of templates for small business owners to use in their marketing are also offered. Some examples include a marketing plan guide, a target market data worksheet, and an annual marketing budget template.
HubSpot Academy
While HubSpot is a paid CRM software system, HubSpot Academy is a free marketing resource hub for small business owners working on their marketing. They offer free courses, the opportunity for certification in multiple categories (i.e. social media marketing, email marketing, etc.) and more. The library of free courses is vast, making it easy for business owners to find the information they are looking for.
HubSpot also has free tools for small businesses to use. An example is their Free Website Grader, which Vivian and I have used multiple times.
This Website Grader takes you through categories that affect your small business’s website, and how your website is performing in each category. The categories that affect your website include: performance, SEO, mobile, and security. This tool will give you a grade in each category, and then give you a list of recommendations of changes to make to elevate your website. We highly suggest checking out this tool.
Small Business Development Centers (SBDC)
The SBDC works with the Small Business Administration (SBA) here in the United States, educational institutions, and others to provide small businesses with the resources they need to succeed. They offer in-person workshops with a wide range of topics, depending on your location. The SBDC also offers online meetings, or live discussions, focused on common questions. (There are some really interesting online meetings as well. The South Carolina SBDC has an online meeting on Apr 18, 2025 on how to start a food truck!)
It is important to note that not all of these workshops are free. However, the seminars I found that were not free usually had a smaller fee, around $20. You can also sign up and request free counseling for individual support.
If you are interested in what the government has to offer in terms of support and assistance for small businesses, this is a great resource to start with.
Chamber of Commerce
Your local Chamber of Commerce can be one of the greatest marketing resources for your small business. Not only do they regularly offer workshops and meetups, this is also a great place to network.
We understand that networking is not popular – but it is still very effective and important for business owners. It allows you to create relationships with others who can help grow your brand awareness, and you could find businesses to collaborate with.
Of the marketing resources we discuss in this article, this one is not free. Member pricing can range from $250 to $5,000, depending on your local Chamber of Commerce and what you are looking for from this resource. However, it is possible to not become a Chamber member and still use some of their resources, however they will charge you because you are not a member.
For example, at the Summerville Chamber of Commerce you can pay around $250 for them to host a ribbon cutting for your small business – it would be free if you became a Chamber member.
If you are looking to focus your marketing efforts on your local community, becoming a member of your local Chamber of Commerce could be a great way to go about it.
