According to a Zippia report, 27% of small businesses in the United States do not have a website. Creating a website can seem daunting, and actually getting website views is equally hard. However, having a website for your small business will help legitimize your brand, and help potential customers feel more comfortable interacting with you. Here are 3 tips for your small business’s website, so that you can get the most out of your investment.

Map It Out

A website is like a visual map of everything your small business has to offer. It is extremely important to not only build a website structure that makes sense, but one that also allows people to quickly find what they are looking for.

Did you know: Most websites try to follow the “3 click rule”. Someone should be able to find the information they are looking for within 3 clicks after visiting a website. Studies also show that most people only give a website 15 seconds before they either continue to use it or close it.

A great way to build a well structured website is to map it out. Literally map it out. Draw a diagram of the flow you want your website to follow. You also want to write down all the information that needs to be available. This will help you organize your process, decide which bits of information need to immediately be available, and what content you can slowly trickle out as you continue to work on your website.

Is Consistency Really That Important?

Consistency is extremely important when it comes to branding your small business – and websites are no exception. Your website also needs to follow your branding guidelines. Make sure you are not using too many fonts, colors that are not on brand, or using verbiage that does not fit your brand voice.

Pro Tip: It can be very easy to get carried away when it comes to designing your website. Having an over the top design will likely not have the desired effect, and could actually negatively impact your website views. Keep things simple. You want your website to look and feel connected and consistent. People want to be sure they are still on the same website.

Does My Website Need a SEO Strategy?

SEO strategy has evolved over the years, but Google’s latest “helpful content” update and SGE are signs that SEO is becoming a simpler process.

What is SGE? SGE stands for search generative experience, and it is Google’s new AI search capabilities. When you search on Google, you will receive an AI response at the top of the page. Google has crawled the internet and complied the best response for your question based on all the information they have available.

The most important tip you need to know when it comes to SEO and getting more website views – NO KEYWORD STUFFING. This “trick” that SEO gurus have pushed for years will no longer “help” you (if it ever really did). Instead, Google’s algorithm is smarter than ever and will recognize if your website is just “stuffed” with keywords, instead of providing actual useful information.

Google’s “helpful” content” update allows the algorithm to rank websites based on 3 key components: content relevance, user experience, and content quality. In simpler terms, your website needs to be easy to use, actually answer the questions people are looking for, and be actually legible.

The key is to actually answer the questions your target audience wants answered, or creating content that is relevant.

Will SGE Affect My SEO Strategy?

Google’s continued effort with SGE is another reason why creating relevant (and well written) content can help you with website views. The SGE (search generative experience) tool is Google’s AI search experience. This allows users to ask a question and get a generated answer from Google itself – instead of having to browse through websites. Google has to pull that information from websites though – it is doing the searching for you. This means that if you have a web page that answers a person’s prompt well, then Google will pull your answer and provide it to the user. Not only that, but Google will cite its sources, so your website is still getting views.

Your small business’s website is your virtual real estate – a place for you and your business. Take advantage of the space and follow these 3 tips to increase your website views.
