Quick Response (QR) codes have become ingrained in the business world, providing a contactless way to browse menus and make purchases. There are many options out there, free and paid, when it comes to creating QR codes, but not all are created equal. Here are 3 reasons why you should consider using a paid QR code generator and not a free one.
It is important to remember when using a QR code generator that you are relying on that third party vendor to connect your customers with your content.
Reliability: Free QR code generators can not give you the same reliability as a paid generator. Free options can go under and disappear, leaving your QR code useless. Any marketing materials that were printed with this QR code will also need to be reprinted, costing you money. With a paid generator, the company is obliged to provide support in case of any issues because you are paying for their services.
Data Privacy: Paid generators profit off of their clients and therefore can offer data privacy to those who use their codes. Free generators are not making money from their services – so how are they able to offer this service? They are likely collecting and selling user data to marketing companies. Now, this may or may not be true for many companies and it really depends on whether you feel comfortable knowing that this is likely what is happening behind the scenes.
Security: You cannot offer security to your customers (i.e. phishing, malicious software, harmful websites) when you are using a free QR code generator. We are not saying this will definitely occur if you use a free generator, but it is more likely to happen than if you were using a paid generator.
QR codes and their simplicity helps with the likelihood of customers interacting with your content. Whether you decide to use a free QR code generator or a paid one, it is still a step in the right direction to utilize them in your marketing strategy.
