There is always a time of year where small businesses see a dip in sales, though that time of year depends on your business and industry.

While this is a common happenstance, that does not mean you can’t do anything about it. Here are a few ways you can stay relevant during your small business’s off season.

Share Value

Share with your customers why your store has something to offer them year round. This can be done with an email list, social media, or even PR from local newspapers.

For example: A waxing salon sees a dip in customers during the winter months, so they change their messaging to focus on explaining to their audience the benefits of continuing to wax during the winter. They reach out to a newspaper to see if they are interested in running an article on how waxing can help your skin during the cold winter season. They also focus their email marketing and social media content on educating people on these benefits.

Nurture Existing Relationships

While during your peak season you might be focusing on attracting new customers. During your off season focusing on existing, repeat customers can help you keep bringing in profit during your slower months. Nurturing your existing relationships can be done multiple ways, including an email list and social media like before. Simply keeping yourself top of mind for your customers can help you stay relevant during the off season.

Switching Focus

Your customers are made up of many different segments. During your off season, it can be beneficial to focus on a segment you might have been neglecting. There might be a segment in your audience that would actually be more interested in your store during your off season, and turning your focus on them can help you stay relevant during your off season.
