The United States government is currently in the process of trying to ban TikTok, or to have them sell to a U.S. company. As a small business owner, is this something you should be worried about. In short, no…as long as you are prepared. While TikTok is a great tool for small businesses, it should not be the only tool you are using to promote and to sell. As long as you have multiple marketing strategies and multiple income streams, you should be okay. Let’s go into depth about how you can prepare for a potential TikTok ban.

Do I Stop Using TikTok in case of a TikTok ban?

No! If you are currently using TikTok to sell or to market your small business then you should absolutely keep doing this. For one, we are not sure if the app will actually be banned. Secondly, even if it does end up being banned, it is still a valid marketing initiative at this moment. The important thing is that you diversify.

Initiatives

Having different marketing strategies is super important, especially for this specific reason. In case something goes wrong or goes down, people need to have other opportunities to find you. You may want to diversify the type of strategy you use, giving yourself both digital and physical options. Examples of marketing strategies or initiatives that your small business might benefit from include: social media, sponsorships, community events, Google ads, and even billboards. Whichever you decide to pursue, make sure you make an educated decision on what initiatives would work best for your small business.

Community Growth

Building a community on TikTok and other social media platforms is great, but what happens when that platform shuts down or becomes obsolete. Turning your focus on leading potential customers to your OWN platforms can help you hold the power. This can include trying to lead people to your email list or website. Using lead magnets and call to action phrases will help you draw people away from platforms and to your specific community. This was it is up to YOU to interact and connect with your community, not a platform to show your content.

Income Streams

If you’ve monetized on platform, then this potential TikTok ban might be hitting you in different ways. Unfortunately, there’s not much you can do when it comes to keeping that income stream if TikTok is banned. The best thing to do is make sure you have multiple streams of income coming in, and that you have built your website and community in a way that you can hold your own.
